What if it doesn't apply to my business?

Every document is written for a business operating in Ontario, Canada, and the quiz filters the library down to your industry and stage — so you only see what's relevant to you. If you open your bundle and genuinely can't use it, email us within 14 days and we refund the membership charge in full, no argument and no form to fill out. If you tell us your industry before buying, we'll tell you straight whether we cover it well or not yet.

Question 2

I'm outside Ontario — is this still useful?

The operating side — SOPs, hiring checklists, pricing and cash-flow models, client onboarding, software stack — works anywhere. The registration, employment-standards and compliance checklists are built around Ontario and federal Canadian requirements, so if you're outside Ontario treat those as a structure to adapt, not a rulebook to follow. If you're outside Canada, expect roughly two-thirds of the value.

Question 3

I haven't started my business yet. Is it too early?

No — pre-launch is when the roadmap saves the most money, because you haven't paid for the wrong software, the wrong structure or the wrong insurance yet. Start with the free Ontario Starter Kit and the quiz. If your roadmap says your next three steps are all free government registrations, we'll tell you that instead of selling you a membership.

Question 4

My business is unusual. Do you have anything for it?

We cover food and beverage, trades and contracting, creators and UGC, salons/spas/wellness, and coaches and professional services in depth. If you're outside those, the general operating documents still apply but the industry-specific compliance checklist won't. Message us with your industry and we'll answer honestly — and the Custom Operating Manual exists exactly for businesses the library doesn't cover.

Am I legally covered if I use your documents?

No document — ours or anyone's — makes you legally covered on its own. Our documents help you get organized, understand what's typically required for a business like yours in Ontario, and link you straight to the official government source so you can complete the real registration or filing yourself. What is legally required for you depends on your specific facts, and only a licensed professional can confirm that.

Are you lawyers or accountants?

No. SUCH A SOFTY publishes business templates and educational material. We are not a law firm, accounting firm, insurance broker or financial adviser, and nothing on this site or in our documents is legal, tax, accounting, insurance or investment advice. We say this up front because anyone telling you otherwise about a $19/month template is misleading you.

Are the templates lawyer-reviewed?

They are researched against Ontario and federal government sources — including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, AODA and PIPEDA requirements — and every checklist item links to the official page it came from so you can verify it yourself. They are not a substitute for having a lawyer review your specific contracts, and we recommend a professional review before you sign anything high-stakes.

When should I stop using a template and hire a professional?

Hire a professional when: you're signing a lease or a contract with real financial exposure, you're taking on investors or a partner, you're handling health, food, childcare or licensed-trade regulation, you're dealing with a dismissal or workplace complaint, or you owe money to the CRA. Use our documents to arrive at that meeting organized — it usually makes the professional cheaper, because you're not paying them to gather your basics.

Do your documents keep up with rule changes?

We review the Ontario and federal compliance checklists on a rolling basis and update the linked sources when they move. Because every item links to the official government page, you can always confirm the current requirement at the source — that link is the authority, not our summary.

What if I buy and hate it?

Accepted Answer

Email us within 14 days of the charge and we refund it in full. Memberships are month-to-month with no minimum term and no cancellation fee — you can cancel in your account in two clicks and keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.

Will I get charged unexpectedly?

Accepted Answer

No. Prices are shown in Canadian dollars with taxes calculated at checkout, trials state their end date before you confirm, and renewals are the same amount as the first charge. If we ever change a price, existing members get at least 30 days' notice by email and can cancel first.

Is the free stuff really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Startup Quiz, the roadmap, the software directory and the Ontario Starter Kit cost nothing. The Starter Kit asks for an email so we can send it to you; you can unsubscribe from any email in one click and ask us to delete your data entirely at any time.

How do you make money on partner links?

Accepted Answer

Some software and partner links pay us a commission if you sign up. It never changes what you pay, and we disclose it on every page where it applies. We do not accept payment to rank a tool higher.

Can I talk to someone before I buy?

Yes — that's what the contact form is for, and it's the fastest way to get a straight answer about whether we fit your business. Send the form or email support@suchasofty.org and a real person replies within one business day, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm Eastern Time. Weekend messages get answered the next business day.

Who is behind SUCH A SOFTY?

A small, independently owned team based in Ontario, Canada that built this system for its own businesses first. We're not a venture-funded platform and there's no call centre — messages come to the same people who write the documents.

Is there a live call option?

Not a general support line, but the $199 Setup Sprint includes a scheduled working session where we set your operating system up with you. For everything else, email is genuinely the fastest path, and we answer with specifics rather than a canned reply.

What happens to my data if you shut down?

Accepted Answer

Every document you can access is downloadable — PDF, editable doc or spreadsheet — and it stays yours to keep once you've downloaded it. Nothing you download stops working if your membership ends. You can also ask us to delete your account data at any time and we do it.
